Ms. Shyu Women in Technology

Each and every one of you will face challenges in your career. See yourself in the forefront, because you are changing the path for all of the other women who come after you. Always think positively, and never, ever give up.

-Ms. Heidi Shyu, Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering.

As the Distinguished Speaker, Ms. Shyu shared her inspiring journey migrating to the United States at 11 years old and how she became the Chief Technology Officer for DOD. She accompanied her stories with valuable lessons she learned to boost women empowerment in the workforce. Her advice ranged from avoiding the pigeonholed trap, to not allowing negativity to impact your laser-sharp focus, and that staying positive is essential. She continues, “each and every one of you will face challenges in your career. See yourself in the forefront, because you are changing the path for all of the other women who come after you. Always think positively, and never, ever give up.”

In addition to Ms. Shyu’s keynote address, the event included technology experts from the National Security Council, National Security Agency, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Office of Naval Intelligence, and the Air Force Research Laboratory. They shared and discussed presentations surrounding technology, cyber security, data science, photonics, and modeling simulation threats.
