DoD Releases Online Cyber Resilient Weapon Systems Body of Knowledge Version 3.1 for Engineering Workforce

April 19, 2023

The DoD announced the Version 3.1 release of the Online Cyber Resilient Weapon Systems Body of Knowledge (CRWS-BoK). This free resource provides publicly available information to assist the public and private sector workforce in designing, engineering, and safeguarding CRWS. The System Security (SysSec) Directorate in the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering (OUSD(R&E)) first launched this vital resource in May 2021 for the system security engineering (SSE) and science and technology (S&T) communities. Since then, SysSec has launched several version updates to enhance the user experience.

Version 3.1 highlights include:

ENHANCED

Enhanced search options that allow users to filter resources by version date

INCREASED

Increased feedback opportunities across the CRWS-BoK to encourage and collect user suggestions

IMPROVED

Improved CRWS-BoK Review Board process, allowing experts to more frequently and efficiently review and approve new resources for the CRWS-BoK

UPDATED

Updated author information storage to improve citation capability and standardization

UPGRADED

Upgraded notification features and site functionality to share the latest CRWS news and resources with users, and to inform users when they have successfully submitted a potential resource for review

“Our goal with these version updates is to continually refine the user experience so that the CRWS-BoK remains an essential resource for our SSE and S&T workforces,” said Ms. Melinda Reed, SysSec Director. “We know that the CRWS-BoK helps to maintain our Nation’s technological advantage by providing the knowledge and components our defense workforce needs to provide secure CRWS for our warfighters.”

R&E also partners with SSE and S&T professionals through the SysSec Directorate to foster assured resilient missions, systems, and components. It leverages best practices and fosters innovation that enables the Nation’s SSE and S&T workforce to engineer CRWS that can successfully operate in the face of persistent cyber threats.
