Defense Science and Technology Protection Experts Share Acquisition Course Updates in New Webinar

Department of Defense (DoD) acquisition professionals can now access updates to Defense Acquisition University (DAU) course ACQ 160, “Program Protection Planning Awareness,” through a new recorded webinar released September 27, 2021 that features two Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering (OUSD(R&E)) science and technology (S&T) protection experts.

In this hour-long webinar, Mr. Burhan Adam, Resilient Systems Policy, Guidance and Standards Director, and Mr. Kris Gardner, S&T Protection Director, share the Department’s latest technology and program protection efforts and highlight new S&T protection content in ACQ 160. Both Mr. Adam and Mr. Gardner are part of the Strategic Technology Protection and Exploitation (STP&E) Office in the Directorate of Defense Research and Engineering for Research and Technology (DDRE(R&T)).

Specific webinar discussion topics include current policy and updates for program protection planning, Technology Area Protection Plans (TAPPs), and S&T Protection Plans (STPPs). The webinar is a mechanism to rapidly share ACQ 160 curriculum updates with the DoD acquisition community. Additionally, it will serve as the authoritative source on ACQ 160 changes based on the updates in DoD Instruction (DoDI) 5000.83, “Technology and Program Protection to Maintain Technology Advantage,” until the updated ACQ 160 course goes live.

Over 120 attendees participated in the live webinar, which is part of STP&E's ongoing outreach across the Department on coordinated S&T protection efforts. The webinar recording and the slides covering the course updates are available on the DAU website.
